Herman Cain is (Sort Of) Pro Gay Marriage, Rick Santorum is Not

Now that he’s the Republican frontrunner/flavor of the month rivals are eager to position themselves next to the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO in the headlines by attacking him. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum fired the latest salvo with a statement letting the world know he’s way more anti-gay than Mr. Cain.

Mr. Cain earned the wrath of Senator Santorum after he appeared on “Meet The Press” yesterday and said he would let individual States “make up their own minds” on same sex marriage than seeking a constitutional ban.

“I wouldn’t seek a constitutional ban for same-sex marriage, but I am pro-traditional marriage,” Mr. Cain said.

Senator Santorum subsequently released a statement to reporters characterizing Mr. Cain’s comments as a “refusal to defend traditional marriage.”

“I believe as Abraham Lincoln did – that states don’t have the rights to legalize moral wrongs,” Mr. Santorum said.

Senator Santorum also said he’s more of an advocate for “traditional marriage” than Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry.

Senator Santorum has long been an outspoken opponent of gay marriage. You can Google it. Still, the Senator wanted to make sure voters know where he stands on his pet issue.

A recent CNN poll placed Senator Santorum’s support among registered Republicans at just 2%, placing him a hair ahead of Jon Huntsman for second to last place among the Republican primary field. With numbers like that, the Senator also likely wanted to remind voters that he exists in the first place.
