Assemblyman Weprin is the Democratic nominee in the special congressional election on Tuesday, September 13th. He has a long record of getting results for New York's seniors, students, and middle-class residents, and he's focused on holding government accountable -- first as chair of the City Council's Finance Committee and now as an assemblyman. He's exactly the kind of leader we need in Congress....

If we're going to continue to build on this work and create jobs, we need strong allies like David in Congress. On the other hand, the Republican nominee supports making harmful changes to Medicare and Social Security, and has even put raising costs for seniors on the table.

This morning, Turner accused Weprin of hypocrisy, since he has shied away from the president on the campaign trail, telling the Jewish Week, "I will probably not refuse to endorse [Obama] because I think I will be more effective by supporting him but at the same time being very strongly against him on some of his policies."

"The Obama campaign is running career politician David Weprin's field campaign, at the very same time that Mr. Weprin is publicly distancing himself from President Obama's policies," said Turner campaign spokesman William O'Reilly. "Mr. Weprin is demonstrating the worst type of political duplicity in this race and he needs to explain himself. Mr. Weprin may think Queens and  Brooklyn voters are stupid, but he will learn the hard way that they can recognize malarkey when they see it."
