Bob Turner is pushing back on the David Weprin campaign's charge that he doesn't support the federal bill that provides compensation for workers who were injured while cleaning up Ground Zero after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

According to a Turner spokesman, he would have voted in favor of the bill, but had concerns before passage that it was too broad, and would have permitted anyone to claim that they volunteered at Ground Zero and thus receive compensation.

"Only a career politician like David Weprin would use 9-11 Healthcare money to try to get votes," said Turner spokesman William O'Reilly in a statement. "His attacks are disgraceful. Of course Bob Turner supported the Zadroga Bill. It's a reason why the bill's author, Homeland Security Committee Chairman Pete King, Ed Koch and Rudy Giuliani have all endorsed Bob Turner. And Turner's son-in-law is a firefighter. David Weprin will stop at nothing to distract voters from what career politicians like him have done to this economy."

The Turner team would like to put this issue to bed, something that seems increasingly unlikely as the election nears.
