Add Long Island Congressman Peter King to the list of Republicans who support the agreement hashed out by President Obama and Congressional leaders to raise the federal debt ceiling.

In a statement sent to The Politicker last yesterday evening, after House Speaker John Boehner had laid out the details of the budget bill, he had high praise for the both the deal and the embattled Boehner.

“From what I have seen, heard and read, this agreement is a significant step forward in getting spending under control and restoring fiscal stability,” King said. “It is also an outstanding achievement for Speaker Boehner and a true vindication of his leadership.”

This kind of endorsement from a senior Congressman is exactly the kind of thing that Boehner in the months ahead. Already this morning there are reports that fractious Tea Party members are defying the agreement and voting against it.
