Harlem State Senator Bill Perkins is out this morning with an open letter to Manhattan district attorney Cy Vance urging him to not drop the rape against Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
“We cannot be or appear to be guided by unfounded information, slanderous attacks or details about an individual’s past that have nothing to do with the case at hand,” Perkins writes. “It takes enormous courage for any victim to report crimes of this nature. I applaud [alleged rape victim Nafissatou] Diallo for that courage and the continuing strength she has exhibited under extreme public scrutiny. She deserves her day in court.”
Perkins has been of the few local pols who has been outspoken his question of the way Vance has handled the case, and if Vance is really vulnerable during his next election, it will be in part because pols like Perkins keep up the heat on him.
