Maggie Haberman of Politico said on Talk1300 this morning that Gillibrand could be building a national profile, and possibly positioning herself for a chance at the White House in 2016.

The show's host, Fred Dicker, scoffed.

"You're suggesting she might have pretensions for the presidency and I find it hard to believe she might want to be Andrew Cuomo's runningmate for vice president," said Dicker, whose close ties to Cuomo have been noted.

"Other than people who may be on her staff, or perhaps she herself, who thinks that about her? That's like talking about George Pataki for president," said Dicker.

Haberman disagreed.

"What would her platform be?" Dicker wondered, "I once believed in all of this and I changed a hundred and eighty degrees and I'm always available to change again."

While Haberman said Gillibrand "comes with a lot of baggage, I don't think that she changed positions is one of them."

Among the things going in Gillibrand's favor for 2016 is that she could be one of the only women in the race, Haberman noted, if, of course, Hillary takes a pass.
