U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was asked by upstate television network YNN about comments by House Majority leader Eric Cantor, who said that any money sent towards disaster relief should be off-set by cuts elsewhere.
Gillibrand wasn’t pleased.
“I think it’s irresponsible, and I think he lacked judgement, and I think he should come and begin to meet with the homes, the families, and the businesses that have been so affected by this storm,” she said. “You know, the number one job of our federal government is to protect people, to keep people safe, and one of our fundamental responsibilities is to be there when there are disasters of this great magnitude.”
