The New York Times has an article today about how the race to replace Anthony Weiner in Congress has turned into a contest of who can be a better friend of Israel.
Today Bob Turner has scored a point in that contest.
His campaign issued a news release this morning titled “TURNER DEMAND TO PRESIDENT OBAMA:’STOP PAYING PALESTINIAN TERRORIST SALARIES.’” It refers to a report in the Jerusalem Post that says that because the U.S. gives money to the Palestinian Authority, and because the PA gives money to people arrested on terrorism charges in Israeli prison, thus…
“If this report is true, The United States government is paying the salaries of people whose sworn duty is to kill Israeli civilians, while U.S. citizens struggle to get by,” Turner said. “This is an outrageous situation and The Obama Administration needs to answer for it. It is beyond the scope of comprehension that the Obama Administration has allowed this to occur. It must stop immediately.”
Earlier this week former Mayor Ed Koch endorsed Turner over Democrat David Weprin, saying that a Turner win would send a message to Obama over his Israel policy. Weprin is an Orthodox Jew and has said he is a steadfast supporter of Israel.
In the release, Turner echoes Koch:
“Israel is our great Middle-Eastern ally and the only real democracy in the region, yet President Obama has consistently treated Israel like it is the bad guy,” he said.
