Rudy Giuliani still believes in Rupert Murdoch, and he cautioned against rushing to judgment in the phone hacking scandal roiling Murdoch’s media empire.
“He’s a very honorable, honest man,” Giuliani told Candy Crowley on CNN’s State of the Union this morning. “This can’t be something that he would anything to do with.”
The interview was posted to the CNN site a few hours before newspaper in Britain began reporting that one of Murdoch’s most trusted executives, Rebekah Brooks, had surrendered to Scotland Yard in connection with the case.
Giuliani said he had not spoken to Murdoch — with whom he has long enjoyed a close relationship — but that he would probably see him sometime soon.
Crowley also asked about a promise Giuliani reportedly made to officiate the wedding of Howard Koeppel and Mark Hsiao, the gay couple he stayed with during his divorce in 2001.
“I don’t recall saying that to them,” he said with a big laugh. ”They may think I said that. I don’t ever recall saying that. They’re wonderful people. I love them. They’re terrific.”
