Carolyn Maloney Looks Forward to Campaigning with David Weprin

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney sent out a statement this afternoon saying she was “delighted” that David Weprin had been picked to represent Democrats in the Ninth Congressional District special election.

Maloney, who represents parts of Queens, called Weprin “a great friend.”

“I have worked with David and I know he will be a great advocate for New York,” she said in the statement. “I look forward to campaigning with David this summer to secure his election to Congress, and to serving with him to represent our great state in the House of Representatives.”

The Democratic establishment would seem to be squarely behind Weprin, though there hasn’t exactly been an outpouring of statements from New York’s congressional delegation. Like everything else in this race, that might have something to do with the fact Weprin is likely to be the delegation’s sacrificial lamb when Democrats have to shed a seat in redistricting.
