City Councilman Robert Jackson of Harlem didn’t raise any money in his latest campaign filing, but he is looking to run for higher office.
A source said Jackson spoke about running for Manhattan Borough President in 2013, and has already met with Democratic consultant Hank Sheinkopf.
The Manhattan B.P. seat is likely to be vacated since the current occupant, Scott Stringer, is currently raising money for a citywide race.
Jackson has a compelling biography: he’s the only Muslim in the City Council, and is currently the chairman of the New York City Council Education Committee. Before elected office, he walked from New York City to Albany to protest school education funding which later ushered in the landmark Campaign for Fiscal Equity court decision that steered an unprecedented level of money into public schools.
