Weiner and Damon

Anthony Weiner has a fund-raiser on June 20 for his 2012 re-election campaign, featuring actor Matt Damon, according to an invitation obtained by Celeste Katz.

Which is noteworthy for a few reasons:

Weiner is embroiled in a Twitter controversy, and getting people to say nice things about him, let alone give him money, may not be easy.

Weiner befriended Damon's childhood friend and acting buddy, Ben Affleck, when Weiner was ascending the ranks of the party's liberal stratosphere as a cable news icon.

In backing Weiner's re-election, Damon is embracing a New York politician he didn't do much to help in 2009: Damon endorsed Mayor Bloomberg, making a conveniently timed cameo on the steps of City Hall, and shoot an entertaining video with Bloomberg, who, like Damon, also hails from Massachusetts.
