The head of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and the Democratic Campaign Committee Chairman, Rep. Steve Israel, have called on Anthony Weiner to resign.
The demands come one day after Weiner confirmed he contacted a 17-year-old girl in Delaware online. The girl’s mother told the New York Post the conversation was brief, and not graphic. The call from Schultz and Israel, along with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, come one day before the Sunday talk shows, where Weiner’s fate is obviously one of the topics that will be discussed.
Weiner has said he will not resign and is expected back in D.C. when Congress returns there Tuesday.
Schultz said she was calling on Weiner to resign “with great disappointment.” Israel, the first New York Congress member to call for Weiner’s resignation, said in a statement that Weiner “has become an insurmountable distraction” and should “get the help he needs.”
Weiner’s most ardent supporter so far, Rep. Charlie Rangel of Harlem, said on Friday that Weiner could continue in Congress, and be an member of the House “if the press would get off his back.”
Weiner’s other colleagues from New York, have not been as defensive of him.
Howard Wolfson, a top aide for Mayor Bloomberg and veteran from the Clinton orbit, said there is “not a chance” Weiner will resign, taking a lesson from former President Bill Clinton.

The Democ”RATS” are throwing there “STAR” under as many buses as they can find.
Why not they have used the Republican “sex” scandals in 2006 to gain control and now they fear that “Weinergate” will cost them in 2012.
I am sure here in NY their will be many more scandals just waiting to come out of the darkness into the sunshine.
