The Democratic consultant attacked in an anonymous robocall this afternoon for working with Tea Party candidate Jack Davis in the closely-watched NY26 special election is defending his work in the race, even though he admits he’s “working on a congressional seat that is probably not even going to be there next year.”
Here’s a snippet from my interview with Jim Spencer:
Once this campaign is over, at some point, we’re going to write about this.
We have a very strong bi-partisan team here, consultants from both parties. Both Democrats and Republicans have been threatened by their respective parties on numerous occasions. I have promised not to divulge any of the kind of inside game on this till after the campaign, because I wouldn’t do anything to hurt the candidacy of Jack Davis.
I’m so proud to be working for Jack. I am a progressive. I am a very proud progressive back in ’06, when he first ran…Jack has been a life-long Republican. But I don’t care if someone has been a Republican,a Democrat, an Independent, a Tea Party person. I support people because of their values. And this guy is a — you know, we got three trade treaties getting ready to come up on the hill. We’re working on a congressional seat that is probably not even going to be there next year. Not even going to be there but I know one guy that will go up there and raise absolutely holy hell about these trade treaties, which every progressive in the United States should be doing. And that’s why I’m here.

[...] Spencer had been unaware who was responsible for the calls, but learned it was Kramer when I asked him for a comment. Spencer said Kramer is just “disgruntled” over his short-lived stint working for the campaign, and added, “this is some kind of weird, personal vendetta.” [...]
